Narcolepsy

Narcolepsy is a rare disorder characterized by EDS and typically associated with sudden sleep attacks and other Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep disorders.

Narcolepsy results from a chemical imbalance in the nervous system that regulates sleep and wakefulness.

Signs and symptoms of narcolepsy include excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), cataplexy (sudden loss of the ability to control muscle movements of the body), sleep paralysis (brief inability to move or talk at sleep onset and upon awakening), hypnagogic hallucinations (vivid dream-like images that occur at sleep onset) and automatic behavior (performing routing tasks without recall).
