Periodic Limb Movement in Sleep

Periodic Limb Movement in Sleep (PLMS) is a disorder characterized by leg movements or jerking during sleep. Most people are usually unaware of these occurrences.

Possible causes of PLMS include vitamin or mineral deficiencies and some medications, particularly antidepressants. Sleep apnea, narcolepsy and insomnia are also contributing factors.

Signs and symptoms of PLMS include excessive daytime sleepiness and leg jerking.
